Why Online Shopping Is A Lot Safer Today

by Nicholas Alexander on May.21, 2010, under Teens

As the internet’s popularity surged in the late 1990s and more people were starting to make online purchases, there were also questions about how secure those purchases really were. You didn’t have to look far to find a story about someone who had a bank account cleared or a credit card maxed out by internet thieves.

These horror stories still occur today, but they are much less frequent than they were before. Here are a few of the ways that online purchases are more secure these days as well as some tips on protecting your financial information online.

Encryption methods are more secure. The standard encryption methods of today are much harder to crack than the ones that were in use during the early internet boom. If you’re visiting a secure site, you can be sure that any information you enter will be safe.

Still, security breaches do occur and hackers occasionally obtain financial information illegally. But considering the huge volume of online transactions every day, the number of cases of stolen financial data is few and far between.

There are fewer sites today than there were when online shopping was just starting to boom. The bursting of the internet bubble caused many fraudulent sites to simply disappear. These deceptive websites still exist, but they’re generally identified quite easily.

If you’ve been using the internet awhile and you’re familiar with online shopping, you’ll probably be able to tell a reputable site from a scam. Of course, you can always stick to the popular and well-known sites such as eBay and Amazon. PayPal can also provide an extra layer of protection for your online transactions.

There are more anti-fraud measures in place. These measures can be as simple as requiring registration before purchasing an item, but they help weed out thieves and scammers.

So don’t stress out too much over making purchases online. Just be smart about the sites you purchase from, and pay attention to how the site handles the checkout process, and you should be safe doing your shopping online.

Some Advice On SMS Sending Following A First Date

by James Dahl on May.20, 2010, under Teens

Have you just come back from a first date and are wondering when you should send your date a text message? You may have found this article after spending some time thinking and deciding to look for advice on the subject.

I’m going to give you what I think is the best advice on this topic, based on my own personal experiences. With any luck, you’ll be able to read a few of these suggestions on what you should say and when you should say it, and you’ll be able to take it from there.

Text messaging is a fairly new phenomenon; it was only introduced about ten years ago, but it’s become a very important method of communication since then.

In the days before people used text messages to contact each other quickly, most people called a day or two after a date to talk a little more and to let the other person know that they had a great time together. This is still acceptable, of course, but many people prefer the ease and simplicity of a text message to communicate after a date.

Since the arrival of texting as a major form of communication, the rules around contacting your date have changed. It can be difficult to determine the right course of action for each situation.

I think the best thing to do is send out a short text within 24 hours of your date. You can even send it the same night, but make it a quick one.

This first text message should be funny and friendly, not serious. Making a reference to something that happened on the date is a great way to break the ice. It’s not necessary to mention that you had fun on the date, since you’ll be showing this just by sending the message.

This message can start up a conversation in which you can exchange texts in a low-pressure situation. Texting at this time will also keep you in your date’s mind so that you already have a lead-in when you talk on the phone again after the date.

When you do call after a day or two, you’ll find it easier to carry on a conversation since you’ll certainly learn more about the other person through your text conversations.

What I Didn’t Expect When I Entered A Contest

by Keith Fisher on May.16, 2010, under Teens

Some years back I wrote a play. I didn’t tell anyone for a long time though, I kept it secret. I was afraid people would reject me. It took me a long time to work up the nerve to submit it anywhere.

Then I got a rejection but it came with a good review. I decided I could send it out again so I entered a contest. A local theater was holding a contest, and entered plays got voted on. Every week the play with the least votes got eliminated, like American Idol.

This dragged out week after week. It was intense, and very suspenseful. Every week there was more voting and more pressure, and we all waited like we were in March Madness to see who would advance to the next round.

By the end of the contest, I was thrilled. I had gotten so much support from friends and family. It was neat to become a finalist but that wasn’t the best part. It was a totally unexpected surprise.

The first week, voting started out with friends and family clicking on my play. The next week, they started sharing the link so their friends could vote for me too!

By the third week, the link to vote for my play was being posted on their Facebook pages. The fourth week, there were people voting for me from all over.

In the end, my play didn’t win, but I did make it to the finals. The most amazing part for me though was how everyone worked so hard to support me and to help me try to win! It was wonderful, especially since most of these people didn’t even know my play existed.

I used to think that people were self-centered and selfish. I figured that people didn’t go out of their way for each other. That was before my contest experience; I know now that if you give people a chance, they’ll often surprise you and support you in ways you didn’t expect.

Getting Your Voice Mail Right

by Janice Dickenson on May.16, 2010, under Teens

Trying to remember a time before we had voicemail isn’t easy to do. It seems like it has been around forever. Prior to voicemail people relied on answering machines to deliver the phone messages that had been missed for whatever reason.

If someone tried to call you when you weren’t home you would never know it without an answering machine or voicemail. While voicemail and answering machines are a good thing they can also be seen as something that has made your friends seem like robots on the other end of the line.

Having voicemail or an answering machine is a necessary evil for us though. We just plain can’t be by the phone 24 hours a day and being able to leave and receive massages works out great for everyone. In one shot you can leave a message and know that the person intended is going to get it.

The fact that making voice mail recordings and leaving messages has been around for a while doesn’t mean that a lot of people still don’t make mistakes. Everyone can benefit from a quick course in voicemail etiquette.

Many people really over think the whole idea of leaving a message. It’s not a formal speech. All you want to do is leave a short message that is to the point and simple. Whatever you do don’t just hang up. That is considered very bad etiquette.

Many people think that if something is important enough, you will call back, and therefore may not call you back unless you have left a voice mail.

Be sure to take a listen to your own outgoing voice mail message to make sure it is not turning people away.

An outgoing message should be short and to the point, so that others quickly know that they reached the right person.

While some people enjoy having cute or funny outgoing messages, it is much more professional to be short and to the point.

How To Select The Right Bat For Your Youth Baseball Players

by Garret Cohn on May.15, 2010, under Kids

Choosing a baseball bat can be quite a difficult task with all the options out there. I’ve been a baseball coach for many years and in the recent years, I’ve noticed that the “golfer” syndrome has been present in baseball.

Golf isn’t the easiest sport to get out and practice, so golfers believe if they buy the best technologically advanced clubs, their game will improve. Some of the individual clubs that have the super fiber shaft or over sized heads can cost hundreds of dollars.

Many youth baseball players have caught onto this syndrome and have similar beliefs. They’re all caught up on the technology, but they’ve become too dependent on this. The best way to improve is to keep on practicing and the bats won’t matter as much. After several studies in the early 1990s, they stated that the lighter the bat, the better. After these studies, it has become very difficult to find a bat with a differential less than -8.

These studies have completely ignored the kinesiology of the body. They simply just focused on the bat and the ball. I read a great example that discusses how it is not a linear relationship. If a batter uses a 20 oz baseball bat, then switches to a 19 oz bat, does not mean they’ll swing 5% faster! The batter is also losing 5% in mass and they won’t be able to swing hard enough to make up for the loss.

As I mentioned, I’ve been coaching for many years and always keep an eye on the bats being used. I rarely notice a difference with the bats. At most, there’s a 5% difference between the newest bats and some older ones. However, if you’re using a 2009 model instead of a 2010, the difference is fractional!

After studying my batters performance for years, I’ve noticed that the heavier bats are better options. Buy the heaviest bat your child can handle, while still swinging with speed. Little League rules require the diameter of the bat to fit within 2 inches. Most 10 year old players should be within 29 – 32 and -7 to -10 oz from the length chosen. Most of my 12 year old players use bats around 32/25.

When teenagers are getting ready to move onto the next level and play college ball, all bats are going to be similar. They all go through a test, which must meet the BESR guidelines. BESR tests all bats at the college level in order to determine the speed of the ball when it’s released off the bat. Since they’re all created similar, there aren’t going to me many advantages with bats at this level.

There are a ton of bats to choose from. Instead of splurging on the newest and most expensive model, get the model from last year for 50% off (usually on sale). Spend the extra money on some batting practice because form is more valuable than a bat!

The Varying Attitudes About Traditional Books and Digital Books

by Tim Powers on May.15, 2010, under Teens

For the first time last year, more e-books were sold than traditional paper books. This has caused much discussion and consternation. Some think that traditional books have a sense of permanency. While these new developments are good, they don’t have the same reliability.

E-book advocates, however, assert that this changes how books are used in the sense that they have become more convenient to carry around and are practically indestructible. Not only have they become more affordable, they even come at no cost in many instances. Now, these arguments are all valid and have a lot of weight.

However, there’s nothing quite like the satisfaction and relaxation that comes with curling up with a cup of hot cocoa and a good book. It certainly depends on personal preference and it might also rely on what age the individual is, but it’s still not the real thing.

It’s not the same with a digital book. The screen doesn’t have the same visual spectrum as paper and if you’re easily distracted by all the other forms of entertainment offered online. With an old fashioned book, you are able to get lost amongst the pages far easier.

Another factor is worth considering. First issues of books in print can be very costly, while e-books can be obtained far easier aside from being cheaper.

Another big difference is the price of books versus the cost of e-books. Generally, a book is going to cost more to purchase, but you’ll be able to place it on your shelf and not have to worry about losing it because of a technological malfunction.

Many people admit that technology has made life a lot easier in a variety of ways. This is one of its greatest contributions to man.

One drawback for technology, however, is when it comes to books. It is a sad reality that printed books and good old libraries are gradually and continuously disappearing from the world.

The writer has been blogging with respect to books for the last four years. Additionally, the individual takes pleasure in writing about other subjects, such as a portable gas heater and electric wall heaters.

A Outline Of Radio Frequency Id What Is A Radiofrequency Identification System (RFID)?

by David Smith on May.15, 2010, under Uncategorized

Radiofrequency ID system has existed ever since the 1940s and has in no way stopped widening its range of application. RFID is a system with multiple elements. It has semiconductor transponders, readers, and software that allows for consistent data feeds.

An internal circuit and antenna are crucial in every RFID transponder. The IC is implanted with an electronic product code (EPC) making it unique among the remaining tagged items all over the world. When the label is within range of an RFID scanning device, data regarding the tagged piece is sent out over the antenna to the scanner, giving records to a processing system.

RFID technology was initially applied for combatant objectives in World War 2. Subsequently, it’s been engaged in various fields. The application grew to become a real help in automotive, security, shipping, travelling, not to mention trade businesses.

Though it was looked at as a cordless bar coding process, RFID is better by far. Scanning with RFID transponder remains useful even if obstacles stand somewhere between the item and the detector. Additionally, these types of transponders can scan an item as much as 90 feet away.

RFID is a self-reliant finding method. This detection strategy functions free of human administration. Moreover, it can read a multitude of tags all together while maintaining high level accuracy in pinpointing each tagged item.

Traditionally, RFID systems are classified in 2 ways. The very first classification comes from its storage and recovery functions: Read-only or Read-write and Passive or Active land sources. The following is dependant on the frequency it utilizes: Low Frequency, High Frequency, or Ultra-high Frequency.

Read-only labels return recorded information exclusively. Personalized data that may be recorded might include a merchandise description or tracking code. These techniques can easily efficiently streamline beneficial manufacturing and supply chain processes. Separately, read-write labels are, conversely, predetermined to accept input and display or edit output.

Passively, a RFID reader gives off signals for the tag to become functional. With no scanning device nearby, the ID could not supply any kind of info. Fundamentally, a passive scheme is inferior when compared with an active system.

A dynamic system has batteries ingrained in tags to aid in the transmittal of data between tag and scanner. Dynamic systems tend to be more advanced than passive systems and scans bigger ranges. They have also been fitted with additional features like thermal scanning devices and consequently have a lengthier life span.

Connect With Your Friends On Facebook Through It’s Chat Facility

by Chris Bailey on May.13, 2010, under Teens

The past few years have shown that the market for chatting has become very competitive. It began with Yahoo, MSN and Google in the race and then along came Facebook and Twitter to change the way that people choose to communicate.

The mere fact that Facebook has chat available ti its customers has made for a major play in the market for the company. There are many specific reasons why is has become si insanely popular. Here are just a few of the reasons why.

Because Facebook has become so popular there is an extremely good chance that all of your friends are going to be there and in many cases at the same time so you can talk to more than one person at once. With people having different email addresses it makes it very hard to connect with all of your friends at once.

With Facebook it doesn’t matter what other email address people have. They can have Hotmail, Gmail AOL, yahoo or anything. Once they have signed into Facebook they are there and available for a chat and conveniently at the same time.

This is the main reason why Facebook has come as far is it has in such a short period of time. It’s just plain easier to use and more convenient than the other services.

Another fact that explains Facebooks popularity is its email service. Facebook people are very frequently on the Facebook site and more apt to get their email quickly while people who use different providers tend to only check their email a couple times a day.

Another reason for Facebook’s popularity is the fact that it is so easy to use. It is basically a rudimentary chat function.

Another factor in Facebook’s popularity is the fact that they have designed it so it is simple to use. This allows you to talk to people who otherwise wouldn’t even be on the computer. The easier something is to use the more people are going to want to use it.
