Parent Teacher Night is a unique opportunity for parents and teachers to get to know each other and form a tight team to better help the students. Make sure you take advantage of this particular event!

The following checklist will help you prepare for this very important night. Remember this is your first opportunity to leave a good impression with the parents.

The first thing to do is to consider your awards and certificates. Are they displayed prominently or stuffed in a drawer? This is the time to display them proudly.

Doctors and dentists almost always have their degrees and certifications proudly displayed in their offices. Why would you, as a teacher, be any different? The parents will want to know your credentials, and displaying them is a great way to let them know what you have done.

Parents need to know that you are ready to teach their children, so be prepared to discuss your own training and background. A good introduction of yourself will be very useful.

It’s important to stick to the main points that qualify you to teach their children. Leave out any little details that don’t position you as an expert, as you will have little time to speak to each parent and will want to use your time as wisely as possible.

Don’t forget about the importance of technology! In this day and age, many parents rely on you to teach their children to survive in a technical world. They will likely expect their children to come home with a better understanding of daily technology then the parents have. It is critical that you are both capable of using the technology yourself and capable of teaching their children to survive in today’s technical world.

Now that you are prepared to showcase your experience, background, training, and technology skills, you’ll present yourself as confident, competent, down to earth, and prepared for the modern classroom!
